A principios de 2020 el mundo cambió y nos presentó el nuevo desafío de entender la vida cotidiana de una manera diferente. La aparición del virus COVID19 hizo que percibiéramos a las personas como una amenanza y factor de riesgo. Se le extrajo a a la vida, su esencia más valiosa: el contacto humano, el intercambio, el compartir. La primera edición de la plataforma audiovisual Corriente Alterna, nació en medio de la crisis y fue una de las millones de iniciativas que poblaron el internet, en la necesidad de que el arte se siguiera generando, manifestando y compartiendo independientemente del medio, plataforma o soporte. | In early 2020 the world changed and it presented us with the new challenge of understanding everyday life in a different way. The appearance of the COVID19 virus caused humans to see each other as a risk factor. It seemed that life was extracted from its most valuable essence: human contact, exchange, sharing. The first edition of the audiovisual platform, Corriente Alterna, was born in the midst of the crisis and was one of millions of initiatives that populated the world in the need for art to continue to be generated, manifested, and shared regardless of the medium, platform, or support.
Esta selección inaugural de videodanza se logró gracias a la generosa participación de lxs artistas curados en esta muestra y fue presentada por el Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano de Lima, Perú; como parte de la programación virtual del XXXII Festival Internacional de Danza Nueva Danza de Lima. Estamos eternamente agradecidxs con lxs creadores de los films incluidos en la primera edición de Corriente Alterna. | This inaugural dance film selection was made possible thanks to the generous participation of the artists in this curation, and was presented by the North American Peruvian Cultural Institute in Lima, Peru as part of the virtual programming of the XXXII New Dance International Dance Festival of Lima. We are eternally grateful to the creators of the films included in the first edition of Corriente Alterna.

CURATION STATEMENT/STATEMENT CURATORIAL
“Humanity is a quality so typical of our species that it carries its name and yet today it can seem so distant from us. As the human race, we have reached a point where we pursue the sacred connection that has characterized our existence. We have placed ourselves in a circumstance in which we need to rediscover our own humanity within an ocean of materiality, dogmas, and aberrations causing us to feel lost, or in the words of Octavio Paz, ‘orphans.’ We find ourselves so confused that a virus transmutes to expose our evident fear of the other, of the unknown, in this historical period. It is not only the threat to global health but the circumstances as a consequence of our dehumanization; corrupt political systems, economic systems that are not sustainable for their population, social inequality, racial discrimination, the destruction of our natural habitat. It is all exacerbated by a shared global situation that comes to place us where we find ourselves, humanity lacking humanity.
The first edition of Corriente Alterna had the generous participation of five directors who, through the diversity of their work, connect us with states that we recognize as human; a smile, physical contact with another human being, love, empathy. Humanity is the cohesive theme of this edition created in reaction to a panorama of uncertainty and global fear. Facing the paradoxical isolating nature of virtuality, Corriente Alterna finds through digitality the means to reconnect with other human being.”

“La humanidad es una cualidad tan típica de nuestra especie que lleva su nombre y, sin embargo, hoy puede parecernos tan distante. Como raza humana, hemos llegado a un punto en el que buscamos la conexión sagrada que ha caracterizado nuestra existencia. Nos hemos colocado en una circunstancia en la que necesitamos redescubrir nuestra propia humanidad dentro de un océano de materialidad, dogmas y aberraciones que nos hacen sentir perdidos, o en palabras de Octavio Paz, ‘huérfanos’. Nos encontramos tan confundidos en este período histórico que un virus transmuta y expone nuestro evidente miedo al otro, a lo desconocido. No es solo la amenaza a la salud mundial, sino las circunstancias como consecuencia de nuestra deshumanización: sistemas políticos corruptos, sistemas económicos que no son sustentables para su población, desigualdad social, discriminación racial, la destrucción de nuestro hábitat natural. Todo se ve agravado por una situación global compartida que viene a colocarnos donde nos encontramos: humanidad carente de humanidad.
La primera edición de Corriente Alterna contó con la generosa participación de cinco directores que, a través de la diversidad de su trabajo, nos conectan con estados que reconocemos como humanos: una sonrisa, el contacto físico con otro ser humano, amor, empatía. La humanidad es el tema cohesivo de esta edición creada como reacción a un panorama de incertidumbre y miedo global. Frente a la paradójica naturaleza aislante de la virtualidad, Corriente Alterna encuentra a través de la digitalidad, el medio para reconectarse con otros seres humanos.”
