Apapacho was also visited in April by artists Sha Luo & Yulin Gu.
Sha Luo was born in Guangdong, China, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She explores the ambiguity between truth and lies, as well as the perception of tension and intimacy. Through photography, video, installation, and performance, she materializes the entangled relations between sensations and memories.
Yulin Gu is an artist based in Queens, New York whose work spans across photography and sculpture. Yulin is intrigued by the gap between urban transformations and urban stillness, and her work portrays expanded personal experiences and collective memories. Yulin explores the imaginative potential of ready-made objects, offering captivating insights into the evolving urban landscape.
Sha shares, “I love the location of Apapacho, it’s safe to explore the neighborhood by walking, not far away to places by car to places in different directions.
We had the time and opportunity to explore and learn about Mexican everyday objects and crafts through visiting local markets and museums, which was crucial for our project on its early research stage.”
During their Apapacho residency, they focused to use their time in to experiment rather than to produce a finished outcome. They were interested in local street games, informal play spaces, markets, and handmade objects, and how they carry emotional weight within everyday life. Through walking, talking, and collecting impressions, they gathered a visual and material language that responds to their surroundings.

Sha Luo nació en Guangdong, China, y actualmente vive y trabaja en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Explora la ambigüedad entre la verdad y la mentira, así como la percepción de la tensión y la intimidad. A través de la fotografía, el video, la instalación y el performance, materializa las complejas relaciones entre las sensaciones y los recuerdos.
Yulin Gu es una artista radicada en Queens, Nueva York, cuya obra abarca la fotografía y la escultura. A Yulin le intriga la brecha entre las transformaciones urbanas y la quietud de la ciudad; su trabajo retrata experiencias personales ampliadas y memorias colectivas. Yulin explora el potencial imaginativo de los objetos encontrados (*ready-made*), ofreciendo perspectivas fascinantes sobre el paisaje urbano en constante evolución.
Sha comparte: “Me encanta la ubicación de Apapacho; es seguro recorrer el barrio a pie y, en coche, se llega fácilmente a lugares situados en distintas direcciones.
Tuvimos tiempo y oportunidad de explorar y conocer objetos cotidianos y artesanías de México visitando mercados y museos locales, lo cual fue fundamental para la fase inicial de investigación de nuestro proyecto”.
Durante su residencia en Apapacho, enfocaron su tiempo para experimentar en lugar de generar un resultado final. Les interesaban los juegos callejeros locales, los espacios de juego informales, los mercados y los objetos artesanales, así como la carga emocional que estos poseen en la vida cotidiana. A través de caminatas, conversaciones y la recopilación de impresiones, construyeron un lenguaje visual y material que responde a su entorno.
