Dia de los Muertos en Living Arts 2021
For the second consecutive year, the Day of the Dead has been impacted by the pandemic in many ways. Many continue to add family and friends to their ofrendas for the first time as COVID19 continues to impact our families and communities. We send our condolences to all those who have been directly impacted by this year’s many losses.
Festivals as we knew them previously are still not possible at this time. Living Arts of Tulsa, OK, has created a hybrid event this year to keep its nearly 30-year tradition alive. It has been an honor to curate the virtual contemporary art programming adding to the gallery filled altars and local performances. Following the precedent Living Arts has set in previous years, we have developed content that not only directly correlates with the holiday, but also works of art that expand popular notions of what Latin American is and the themes involved in contemporary discourse. The virtual content we have organized comes from Oaxaca and Veracruz, MX and Salt Lake City, USA, and ranges from documentary to video installation. More Info.
Por segundo año consecutivo, el Día de los Muertos ha sido impactado por la pandemia de muchas maneras en 2021. Muchos continúan agregando familiares y amigos a su ofrenda por primera vez mientras COVID19 continúa afectando a seres queridos de nuestras comunidades. Enviamos nuestras condolencias a todos aquellos que se han visto afectados directamente por pérdidas de este año.
Los festivales como los conocíamos anteriormente no son posibles en este momento. Living Arts of Tulsa, OK, ha creado un evento híbrido este año para mantener viva su tradición de casi 30 años. Ha sido un honor colaborar en la curaduría de la programación virtual que se suma a los altares y representaciones locales en el lugar. Siguiendo el precedente que Living Arts ha establecido en años anteriores, hemos desarrollado contenido que no solo se correlaciona directamente con la festividad, sino también con obras de arte que amplían las nociones populares de lo que es el arte Latinoamericano y los temas que participan en el discurso contemporáneo. El contenido virtual que hemos organizado proviene de Oaxaca y Veracruz, MX y Salt Lake City, EE. UU., Y va desde el documental hasta la instalación de video. Mas Info.

Día de los Muertos will be shaped by the pandemic in a multitude of ways in 2020. Many will add family members to their altar for the first time as covid continues to take loved ones from our communities. We send our condolences to all of those who have been directly impacted by loss this year.
Festivals as we previously knew them are not possible right now. Living Arts of Tulsa, OK, has created a hybrid event this year to keep their nearly 30-year tradition alive. It has been an honor to assist in the curation of virtual programming adding to the onsite local altars and performances. Following the precedent Living Arts has established in previous years, we have developed content that not only directly correlates to the holiday, but also artwork expanding popular notions of what Hispanic or Latinx art is and themes engaging in contemporary discourse.
