Miguel Valdivieso es un bailarín y coreógrafo boliviano, nacido en Turrialba (Cartago, Costa Rica). Su investigación versa sobre la relación entre los lenguajes escénicos formales y la hegemonía cultural, involucrando ironía, travestismo y autorreferencia. Inició su formación artística en el Instituto Eduardo Laredo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) y posteriormente se graduó en el Taller de Danza del Teatro San Martín y en la Universidad Nacional de las Artes (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Se destacó como performer en “Fuck me” (2020) de Marina Otero, presentándose en escenarios internacionales como Zürcher Theater Spektakel, Spring Utrecht, Théâtre de la Ville París, De Singel Amberes, Onassis Stegi Atenas, CPH Stage, ImPulsTanz Viena y HAU Berlín, entre otros. En 2023 estrenó su primer solo autodirigido ”Cómo puedo desear tanto esto” en el Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo, Buenos Aires. Su segundo solo “Latina Bausch” se desarrolló en residencias en Bolivia, Argentina, Brasil, Bélgica y Alemania, a su vez, fue premiado por la Bienal de Arte Joven de Buenos Aires (Argentina) y el Premio Plurinacional Eduardo Abaroa (Bolivia). Actualmente está iniciando el proceso de “Blanqueada”, la tercera obra de su trilogía de solos.
“Como artista maricón latinoamericano, me interesa trabajar desde el cliché para desmontarlo, transformar la fragilidad en potencia y desafiar la lógica extractivista del arte contemporáneo. Esta residencia no es solo un espacio de creación, sino una oportunidad para consolidar una voz crítica situada, capaz de dialogar con otros contextos del sur global sin perder complejidad ni contradicción.“
Miguel Valdivieso is a bolivian dancer and choreographer, born in Turrialba (Cartago, Costa Rica). His research focuses on the relationship between formal performance languages and cultural hegemony, incorporating irony, transvestism, and self-reference. He began his artistic training at the Eduardo Laredo Institute (Cochabamba, Bolivia) and later graduated from the Dance Workshop of the San Martín Theatre and the National University of the Arts (Buenos Aires, Argentina). He was distinguished as a performer in Marina Otero’s “Fuck me” (2020), appearing on international stages such as Zürcher Theatre Spektakel, Spring Utrecht, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, De Singel Antwerp, Onassis Stegi Athens, CPH Stage, ImPulsTanz Vienna, and HAU Berlin, among others. In 2023, he premiered his first self-directed solo, “How Can I Desire This So Much”, at the Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo in Buenos Aires. His second solo work, “Latina Bausch,” was developed during residencies in Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, and Germany, and was awarded at the Buenos Aires Young Art Biennial (Argentina) and the Eduardo Abaroa Plurinational Prize (Bolivia). He is currently beginning the process of creating “Blanqueada,” the third work in his trilogy of solo pieces.
“As a queer Latin American artist, I’m interested in working with clichés to deconstruct them, transform fragility into potential, and challenge the extractive logic of contemporary art. This residency is not only a space for creation, but also an opportunity to consolidate a situated critical voice, capable of engaging with other contexts in the Global South without losing complexity or contradiction.”
