Nuestro residente de Apapacho en marzo 2026 fue Miguel Cavadas. De Vigo, España, es guionista, poeta y creador escénico. Se dio a conocer en el ámbito literario y teatral gallego mientras estudiaba Lengua y Literatura Españolas en la Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. Sus relatos y poemas resultaron ganadores en certámenes como el Mazarelos, el Díaz Jácome o el Lorenzo Baleirón y aparecieron publicados en revistas como Dorna y Luzes. Con la compañía de creación colectiva Faísca Teatro estrenó dos montajes largos premiados en el Xuventude Crea. Obtuvo una beca de La Caixa de posgrado para estudiar un MFA en Screenwriting en la sede de Los Ángeles de la Boston University. En Estados Unidos, sus guiones fueron seleccionados en varios concursos (NALIP, WeScreenplay, Scriptapalooza, ScreenCraft) y fue finalista del prestigioso Paramount Writers Mentoring Program. Formó parte del equipo de guionistas de la compañía mexicanoamericana Elefantec Global y asistió en el desarrollo inicial de la serie Un mundo raro, de Carlos Algara.
Actualmente compagina la creación literaria con su carrera como guionista autónomo en España. Busca aproximarse a la escritura audiovisual desde una perspectiva subversiva, interartística e inclusiva, influenciada por su formación filológica y su experiencia escénica, y atravesada por los conceptos de la masculinidad, la injusticia social y la emigración. Acaba de publicar el poemario “himno nacional” (Chan da Pólvora, 2025).
Miguel comparte, “mi paso por Apapacho me permitió contar con una base de operaciones ubicada en el corazón de la CDMX para continuar con mi investigación sobre la emigración gallega en el país. Desde allí pude realizar entrevistas, consultar prensa, visitar museos y explorar la huella de la colonización y los nuevos movimientos migratorios hacia el norte. Experimentarlo en carne propia y gozar del espacio y el tiempo para plasmarlo en texto y darle forma literaria supuso un avance notable en el proceso creativo que sigo llevando a cabo y una oportunidad única de intercambio cultural y realización personal.”
Lo que más apreció de su residencia fue: “Que existan estos espacios que den independencia y comodidad al artista es genial. Insisto en el papel de Héctor, necesario y eficiente, y el maravilloso documento para orientarse en Apapacho y en la ciudad.”
La estancia de Miguel en Apapacho fue posible gracias a la “Subvención para la participación de personas creadoras gallegas en residencias literarias fuera de Galicia” de la Xunta de Galicia.
Miguel expresa que “la locación de la residencia es estupenda y facilita muchísimo la movilidad por la ciudad tanto caminando como en Metro/Metrobús. El espacio es amplio, cómodo y tranquilo, con puntos extra para el patio, ideal para leer por las noches. La disposición inmediata de Héctor ante cualquier imprevisto es ejemplar.”
Our Apapacho resident for March 2026 was Miguel Cavadas. Hailing from Vigo, Spain, he is a screenwriter, poet, and theater creator. He first gained recognition within the Galician literary and theatrical scenes while studying Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His short stories and poems won awards in competitions such as the Mazarelos, the Díaz Jácome, and the Lorenzo Baleirón, and were published in journals including Dorna and Luzes. With the collective creation company Faísca Teatro, he premiered two full-length productions that received awards at the Xuventude Crea festival. He was awarded a postgraduate scholarship from La Caixa to pursue an MFA in Screenwriting at Boston University’s Los Angeles campus. In the United States, his screenplays were selected in various competitions (NALIP, WeScreenplay, Scriptapalooza, ScreenCraft), and he was a finalist for the prestigious Paramount Writers Mentoring Program. He served on the writing staff of the Mexican-American company Elefantec Global and assisted in the early development of the series Un mundo raro, created by Carlos Algara.
He currently balances literary creation with his career as a freelance screenwriter in Spain. He seeks to approach audiovisual writing from a subversive, interartistic, and inclusive perspective—influenced by his background in philology and his experience in the performing arts—and informed by themes of masculinity, social injustice, and emigration. He has just published the poetry collection himno nacional (Chan da Pólvora, 2025).
Miguel shares: “My time at Apapacho provided me with an operational base situated in the heart of Mexico City, allowing me to continue my research into Galician emigration within the country. From there, I was able to conduct interviews, consult press archives, visit museums, and explore the imprint of colonization as well as new migratory movements heading north. Experiencing this firsthand—and having the space and time to capture it in writing and give it literary form—represented a significant step forward in the creative process I am currently undertaking, as well as a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and personal fulfillment.”
What he appreciated most about the residency was: “The existence of spaces like these—which provide independence and comfort to the artist—is brilliant. I must emphasize Héctor’s role, which was both essential and efficient, as well as the wonderful guide provided for navigating Apapacho and the city.”
Miguel’s stay at Apapacho was made possible thanks to the “Grant for the participation of Galician creators in literary residencies outside of Galicia” from the Xunta de Galicia.
Miguel states: “The location of the residence is superb and makes getting around the city—whether on foot or by Metro/Metrobús—incredibly easy. The space is spacious, comfortable, and quiet, with extra points for the patio, which is ideal for reading in the evenings. Héctor’s immediate responsiveness to any unforeseen issues is exemplary.”
