Una ficción contemporánea sobre memoria, territorio y las formas en que imaginamos el futuro.
CAMAIOC es el nuevo proyecto del artista peruano Ignacio Alvaro. Se trata de una investigación artística en curso que explora las posibilidades de reinterpretar antiguos sistemas de conocimiento desde una perspectiva contemporánea. A través de un conjunto de pinturas y piezas textiles, el proyecto construye la ficción de una comunidad futura que ha recuperado formas ancestrales de observación para establecer nuevas relaciones entre territorio, memoria y abundancia. En este universo especulativo, la figura de Camaioc aparece como un mediador capaz de interpretar los ciclos de la naturaleza y los vínculos invisibles que conectan a las personas con el paisaje que habitan. Lejos de proponer una reconstrucción histórica, Camaioc plantea una arqueología del futuro. Sus obras funcionan como vestigios de una infraestructura de conocimiento perteneciente a una civilización imaginaria, donde el textil se convierte en un espacio de inscripción, transmisión y producción de memoria.
La investigación toma como punto de partida las tradiciones religiosas, las prácticas rituales y los procesos escultóricos y textiles andinos, entendidos como tecnologías culturales capaces de almacenar conocimiento, construir identidad y articular relaciones complejas con el territorio. Desde esta perspectiva, las pinturas y los textiles reunidos en el proyecto proponen nuevos sistemas visuales que invitan a pensar la memoria como un proceso vivo, en un contexto de intercambio global, físico y virtual. Situado entre la arqueología especulativa, la ficción cosmológica y la investigación artística contemporánea, Camaioc reflexiona sobre la manera en que las sociedades producen conocimiento y proyectan futuros posibles. Actualmente en proceso de expansión, el proyecto continuará desarrollándose mediante nuevas investigaciones materiales y conceptuales.
CAMAIOC estará abierta del 2 al 6 Septiembre en La Pop Gallery ubicada en Zacatecas 187, Colonia Roma Norte, CDMX.
IGNACIO ALVARO (Lima, Perú)
Ignacio Alvaro estudió en la Escuela Nacional Superior de Bellas Artes del Perú (2006-2008) y la Escuela Superior Corriente Alterna (2009-2011). Su trabajo apunta a comprender la cultura contemporánea como una fuente histórica transformable, abierta y en ebullición, en la que se altera todo ingrediente social, político, histórico y temporal, resultando de ello un puente entre rituales e influencias ancestrales panamericanas y tendencias visuales post o híper modernas.
Entre sus reconocimientos, destaca el segundo lugar en la categoría experimental del XIX Concurso Nacional de Artista Jóvenes Cerro Verde (2009) y el primer lugar del mismo concurso en el año 2010; así como formar parte del proyecto Laboratorio “Trayectorias Recientes en la Teoría y Práctica Artística Contemporáneas” organizado por Wu Galería en 2013.
Ha formado parte de exposiciones individuales y colectivas en Perú, Guatemala y México, dentro de las que destacan las salas expositivas John Harriman del Británico de Miraflores y San Juan de Lurigancho, Galería Impakto, Otra Feria, ICPNA, Fundación Paiz, entre otros.

CAMAIOC
A contemporary fiction exploring memory, territory, and the ways we imagine the future.
CAMAIOC is the new project by Peruvian artist Ignacio Alvaro. It is an ongoing artistic inquiry exploring the possibilities of reinterpreting ancient knowledge systems from a contemporary perspective. Through a series of paintings and textile works, the project constructs the fiction of a future community that has reclaimed ancestral forms of observation to establish new relationships between territory, memory, and abundance. In this speculative universe, the figure of the Camaioc emerges as a mediator capable of interpreting nature’s cycles and the invisible bonds connecting people to the landscape they inhabit. Far from proposing a historical reconstruction, Camaioc posits an archaeology of the future. The works function as vestiges of a knowledge infrastructure belonging to an imaginary civilization, where textiles become a space for the inscription, transmission, and production of memory.
The research takes as its starting point Andean religious traditions, ritual practices, and sculptural and textile processes—understood as cultural technologies capable of storing knowledge, constructing identity, and articulating complex relationships with the territory. From this perspective, the paintings and textiles brought together in the project propose new visual systems that invite us to consider memory as a living process within a context of global exchange—both physical and virtual. Situated at the intersection of speculative archaeology, cosmological fiction, and contemporary artistic research, Camaioc reflects on how societies produce knowledge and project possible futures. Currently expanding, the project will continue to develop through further material and conceptual research.
CAMAIOC will be open from September 2 to 6 at La Pop Gallery, located at Zacatecas 187, Colonia Roma Norte, Mexico City.
IGNACIO ALVARO (Lima, Perú)
Ignacio Alvaro studied at the National School of Fine Arts of Peru (2006–2008) and the Corriente Alterna School of Art (2009–2011). His work seeks to understand contemporary culture as a transformable, open, and dynamic historical source—one in which social, political, historical, and temporal elements are altered, creating a bridge between Pan-American ancestral rituals and influences and post- or hyper-modern visual trends.
Among the artist’s accolades are second place in the experimental category of the 19th Cerro Verde National Young Artists Competition (2009) and first place in the same competition in 2010, as well as participation in the “Recent Trajectories in Contemporary Artistic Theory and Practice” laboratory project organized by Wu Galería in 2013.
The artist has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Peru, Guatemala, and Mexico, notably at the John Harriman exhibition spaces at the Británico (Miraflores and San Juan de Lurigancho branches), Galería Impakto, Otra Feria, ICPNA, and Fundación Paiz, among others.
