Dr. Benjamin Hay

Apapacho’s August 2025 resident was Dr. Benjamin Hay, a trumpeter and educator based in Northeastern Oklahoma. Dr. Hay’s residency was focused on the research of Renaissance-style Spanish composer Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla whose work has been preserved at the Puebla’s cathedral. Dr. Hay visited Puebla and CDMX, diving in the Baroque and Renaissance heritage appreciated in the Biblioteca Palafoxiana and the Puebla Cathedral, and in Fonoteca Nacional audio archives, the National Sound Library in Mexico City.
Dr. Hay performs as principal trumpet of Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra and Tulsa’s Starlight Concert Band, as well as acting principal of Tulsa’s Signature Symphony. He frequently performs with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Hay has had the privilege of sharing the stage with a wide range of the world’s top performers such as JoAnn Falletta, Benjamin Zander, Eric Whitacre, Michael Daugherty, the Irish Tenors, Bernadette Peters, The Four Tops, Hanson, Mannheim Steamroller, Rickey Minor, and Johnny Mathis.
Dr. Hay holds degrees from Oklahoma State University (B.M. Performance), the University of New Mexico (M.M. Performance), and the University of Oklahoma (D.M.A. Performance). He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music (Trumpet/Theory) and Chair of the Department of Music at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
El artista residente de Apapacho en agosto de 2025 fue el Dr. Benjamin Hay, trompetista y educador radicado en el noreste de Oklahoma. La residencia de Ben se enfocó en la investigación del compositor español de estilo renacentista Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, cuya obra se conserva en la catedral de Puebla. El Dr. Hay visitó Puebla y la CDMX, sumergiéndose en el patrimonio barroco y renacentista apreciado en la Biblioteca Palafoxiana y la Catedral de Puebla, y en los audioarchivos de la Fonoteca Nacional en la Ciudad de México.
Ben actúa como trompeta principal de la Bartlesville Symphony Orchestra y de la Starlight Concert Band de Tulsa, además de ejercer como principal interino de la Signature Symphony de Tulsa. Colabora frecuentemente con la Symphony of Northwest Arkansas y la Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. El Dr. Hay ha tenido el privilegio de compartir escenario con una amplia gama de destacados intérpretes a nivel mundial, tales como JoAnn Falletta, Benjamin Zander, Eric Whitacre, Michael Daugherty, The Irish Tenors, Bernadette Peters, The Four Tops, Hanson, Mannheim Steamroller, Rickey Minor y Johnny Mathis.
Ben posee títulos de la Oklahoma State University (Licenciatura en Interpretación), la University of New Mexico (Maestría en Interpretación) y la University of Oklahoma (Doctorado en Artes Musicales – Interpretación). Actualmente se desempeña como Profesor Asistente de Música (Trompeta/Teoría) y Jefe del Departamento de Música en la Northeastern State University en Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
